Demre Mira Kekova

A trip to Demre-Myra-Kekova will be of interest to lovers of ancient cities and churches! A fascinating itinerary for history enthusiasts. During the trip, you’ll be able to immerse yourself in Lycian, Hellenic, Roman and Byzantine culture.

The tour will begin with a visit to the ruins of the ancient city of Myra, founded in the 5th century BC. In ancient times, it was a mighty city and served as the capital of the Lycian state. You will see the unique tombs that have survived, the rock-cut ruins and the amphitheatre. Today, the city that preserves these historical monuments is called Demre.

The next stop on our itinerary will be the Church of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. It is one of the city’s main attractions. The church has survived numerous raids but has been restored and is now very popular with pilgrims.

Next, we’ll set off by yacht to one of the islands in the Mediterranean Sea – Kekova. On the northern side of the island lie the ruins of the ancient Lycian city of Karavola, which was destroyed by an earthquake in the 2nd century and has partially sunk beneath the water. From the deck of the yacht, we can see that the area is strewn with ancient artefacts. At a depth of 5 metres, you can see statues, house walls, marble columns, the remains of an ancient harbour and stone staircases.
